Ready, set, go!
If you take an EV home today, what’s your plan?
What you can do right now
If you take an EV home today, how will you charge it? Do you even need to charge it right away? Unless you’re going on a long drive tomorrow, probably not. But, you want to be prepared:
Search for EV charging stations near your home, work, or school with PlugShare. Also check the grocery store. Filter by charging type: Level 2 (you plan to leave the car parked for hours) or DC fast chargers for quick fill-ups.
Make sure your EV comes with a Level 1 charger. If you have an outlet near where you park, you can charge. Even if you don’t, keeping a Level 1 charger in your car is a smart strategy – you never know when you’ll need it.
Contact local electricians. Check out our local installer recommendations (or ask us) and ask them to visit your home to provide an estimate. Don’t rush in to installing a Level 2 unless absolutely necessary – getting multiple quotes is always a good idea.

When you buy or lease a new 2025 IONIQ 5 or 2025 IONIQ 5 N from a participating Hyundai dealership, you can choose between a ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 EV charger or a ChargePoint out-of-home charging credit of $400 for the 2025 IONIQ 5 or $450 for the 2025 IONIQ 5 N.
You must work through Hyundai Home’s partner Electrum to get a quote and installation. We still recommend getting a quote from your own trusted or another local electrician … that way you have way to negotiate with the Electrum-provided installer if the quote seems high.

Before you drive off the lot
Learn the basics and ask many questions. While Evee is here to answer all of your questions (just ask!), there’s nothing better than a first-hand tutorial. Have your salesperson show you how to:
Adjust the seats, steering wheel, and mirrors
Access all of the different menus and settings on the infotainment
Set your charging schedule to off peak hours (12am – 3pm), to minimize your charging costs
Enable battery pre-conditioning in the EV menu for lightning-fast DC charging
Search for charging stations in the built-in navigation. See how to filter by charging speeds and plug types and set one as a destination (not a stop!) to trigger pre-conditioning.
Use the Auto climate function to avoid lots of screen tapping just to change the temperature.
Turn on or off advanced safety features of the vehicle according to your preferences. We recommend keeping them on!
