Federal tax credits

In a lease, the manufacturer or leasing company receives the 45W commercial tax credit often passes it along to consumers in the form of a rebate. There are no customer income or vehicle price restrictions.

The rules for the 30D are a bit more complicated.
First, your modified adjusted gross income (AGI) must not exceed:
$300,000 for married couples filing jointly
$225,000 for heads of households
$150,000 for all other filers
Second, you need to ensure the vehicle qualifies. At this time, only the following Hyundai or Kia vehicles qualify for the 30D tax credit:
2025 Kia EV6 - $7,500
2026 Kia EV9 - $7,500

$75,000 for all other filers
Second, you need to ensure the vehicle qualifies. In order to qualify, a vehicle must:
Be model year 2023 and older
Cost less than $25,000, not including official taxes and fees
Have not received the 25E credit before - be sure to have the dealer confirm this vehicle is eligible

Utility incentives
Buy a smart charger and get rewarded by your utility
PG&E will pay you $75 if you enroll your vehicle and charger in their smart charging program. You’ll be rewarded with extra bill savings along the way.

If you are a customer of Alameda Municipal Power, you’re in luck! Not only do you have some of the lowest energy rates around, AMP provides a $500 rebate for installing a home Level 2 charger.
Used vehicle incentives
If you’re in the market for a used electric car, there are a myriad of incentive programs available from state and local sources.
Depending on where you live, your income, and your household size, you may qualify for nearly $20,000 in purchase incentives. The State of California provides DriveClean, a tool that finds all of the rebates and incentives that could drive down your cost.
